"Centrifugation has come a long way since the process was first commercialized for laboratory use in the 1940s. Today, materials such as aluminum alloys and titanium are used in order to withstand high centrifugal forces. Standard features now include processes for cooling, programming, automatic imbalance detection, noise reduction and changeable rotor systems." 1

What are centrifuges used for?
Simple centrifuges are used in chemistry, biology, and biochemistry for isolating and separating suspensions. They vary widely in speed and capacity. They usually comprise a rotor containing two, four, six, or many more numbered wells within which the samples containing centrifuge tips may be placed.2
What else can they be used for?
Uses for laboratory centrifuges also include: blood separation, sediment analysis, removal of particles from fluids, and biological separations.3
